  • Led weekly sessions to teach parents of children on the Autism spectrum and with other disabilities mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques and apply them to their daily parenting practices

  • Organized and led weekly excursions to local restaurants, movie theaters and bowling alleys for parents to practice their newly-learned techniques with their children in the community

  • Individually conceived, organized, planned and facilitated six sessions of swim lessons in both the fall and spring semesters, pairing over 20 Princeton student-volunteers with over 30 young swimmers, each with disabilities including Autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, and other developmental disorders

  • Worked hands-on with swimmers, inside the water, to establish a better connection, maximize learning, and ensure safety

  • Met one-on-one biweekly with a child with autism in order to help develop social skills and cultivate self esteem

  • Worked with Developmental Psychology professor and private practitioner Michael Litchman PhD to plan sessions which address the needs of the child and target specific skills and outcomes each session

Volunteer and Team Leader for Children with Disabilities | Princeton Disabilities Awareness Down Syndrome Conference Princeton, NJ
Fall 2007 – Fall 2010

  • Spent one day each fall with children from 150 families with children with Down syndrome and other disabilities from the community, reading books, assisting with obstacle courses, painting faces, and helping children eat snacks and lunches, while parents attended an educational conference

  • Served as a team leader during my junior and senior years, recruiting teammates and friends to volunteer and overseeing multiple groups of children throughout the day
